As previously mentioned, at the beginning of the year we began processing payroll in house for our Steak ‘n Shake team. In the second quarter, as promised, the payroll department started processing BurgerBusters payroll; no longer outsourcing to a third-party provider. As a reminder, with this has come new benefits such as a self-service site that will allow our employees to update addresses, tax withholdings, direct deposit information, and request vacations for applicable personnel. As we get close to the end of the year, everyone should be making sure their address is up to date in Greenshades if they wish to receive a paper copy of their W-2.
Enhancements have not stopped with internal payroll functionality. The Accounting Department improved financial statement reporting by creating the ICOS report for Operations, had to do the complex accounting for the 25-store Tacoma acquisition, and lastly, both Steak ‘n Shake and BurgerBusters began utilizing delivery services that have to be financially reported in a unique way based on in-transit ownership and responsibility assignment.
The Accounting Department would like to introduce our newest addition, Vyvyenne Johnston (pronounced Vivian). She has over 20 years’ experience with payroll and is a valuable addition to the department with the additional responsibilities that have come with processing payroll in house. Vyvyenne is responsible for the entire Steak ‘n Shake payroll, as well as the garnishments and child supports for both BurgerBusters and Steak ‘n Shake.
One of the goals for the Accounting Department is to have continued personal development by obtaining professional certifications. There are several accomplishments that need to be recognized by the Accounting Department’s hard work outside of the office. With hours of studying in their free time, the following people have achieved the following certifications:
Lesley Smith – CAPP (Certified Accounts Payable Professional)
Natalie Frye – CAPA (Certified Accounts Payable Associate)
Michelle Detrick – SHRM-CP (Human Resources Certified Professional)
Vyvyenne Johnston – Certified Public Notary
