Employees must understand that “gifting” friends and family members meals is considered theft. BurgerBusters’ Employee Meal Policy No. 1003 states, “Employee meals are intended for the employee only and cannot be used to purchase food for friends or family members.”  Unfortunately, not all employees are complying with our policy.

We found meal theft in 13 of the first 17 audits which equates to 76% of stores with discovered meal theft. Meal theft averaged $6.38 per store per day. If every store had just $6.38 in unauthorized meal discounts / food going home / or grazing (jumping on line and making a “snack”) the total cost would be $931 a day for the company.

Our Asset Protection Department discovers meal abuse all the time.  When meal abuse is discovered during an investigation the District Manager of that store will be notified. Violation of this policy may result in forfeiting all employee meal privileges and will subject the employee to further disciplinary  action up to and including termination.
