Now that all our locations have received the Secure Pay credit card machines we are much more secure against outside sources gaining access to our customers credit information. We also can continue to accept credit cards even if the master register one is down for any reason. In addition, our personnel (at least at the counter) no longer have any contact with the customer’s credit card.
Initially each store received two counter credit card machines, one drive through device and one back-up device that is supposed to be kept in the safe to be used in the event one of the other machines failed. The procedure for getting a defective machine repaired is as follows:
If a credit card unit fails the first step is to call SOS TACO 1-800-767-8226.
They will trouble shoot the device as well as the power supply to determine what is defective. TACO will then contact Verifone BAMS and they will, in turn, email your store with instructions on where to send the unit. Please only send the unit, not with the wire that was attached to the unit, as they have not been returning the wires.
If you have called TACO and you do not hear from Verifone in two days, call TACO again and follow up. Do not count on them to follow up. What has been happening is that if they drop the ball and we forget about it until another device fails we end up having no back-up unit. As you can imagine, the drive thru cashier running up to register two to collect every credit card purchase will do nothing to improve your speed of service. The initial instructions suggested that repair service on these machines would be approximately ten days, in reality this has been as much as five weeks. These machines are not transferable between stores so it is essential that each store maintains a backup in their safe.
