In the last two years, BurgerBusters has added over 50 stores to its system through development and acquisitions so those are over 50 more assets that we are required to constantly maintain and improve in support of our Operations team. The Facilities Department is here to help Operations focus on serving customers by giving them properly maintained equipment, buildings, and properties.

In 2018, we have completed “Refresh” projects at Unit No. 19010 Charles Town, WV and Unit No. 34016 Nags Head, NC by updating both the interior and exterior of the properties to brand and company standards. Nine stores received new Pepsi fountains so far this year while another nine stores received new Frutista machines. We have implemented a plan to have any Frutista machines installed from 2012 or older to be replaced with new refurbished machines by May 2019. Unit No. 20974 King George, VA received replacement walk-in coolers and a walk-in freezer box in October. Twelve restaurants received either new parking lot overlays or a seal and stripe to provide a more inviting property to customers. Several stores in the newly acquired Roanoke DMA had building painting and landscaping upgrades done on the exterior as well as several equipment upgrades done to HVAC units, fryers, and water heaters. We also cannot forget all the items done, big and small daily and nightly, by our Internal Maintenance Technicians Larry Hamill, Phyllis Gaines, and John Lordan as well as the diligent efforts of Tammy Craiger in our home office coordinating these projects while still facing the everyday emergencies that occur in our Facilities.

All those new assets mean there are incrementally more employees and customers coming through our doors, which means more proactive and reactive action needed by Patrick Bowen, our Loss Control Specialist, when it comes to keeping us safe and mitigating claims. This fall, Patrick rolled out the Safety Champion Program to the acquired stores in Roanoke to instill the Safety Culture that has been a hallmark of BurgerBusters for many years. In the rolling 5-year scorecard that pits us against 27 other franchisees across the country, BurgerBusters is ranked 2nd in claims performance. That is a testament to the hard work by our Loss Control and Asset Protection Departments, but also to the everyday managers and crew members at the store level making sure we have a safe environment for our employees to work in and our customers to dine in!
