2022 will be no different than 2021 for the Human Resources Department. We are held to a standard unlike no other business because our employees need to be paid correctly and timely. With that in mind, there are several issues that cause repeated problems getting people compensated correctly. I have three wonderful Human Resource employees that really care about BurgerBusters and BurgerBusters’ employees and provided below are their concerns.
From Emerald Chandler: Managers and District Managers are not submitting the proper status change forms or background check approvals before placing a new employee in his / her position. This causes wage discrepancies that require additional time and effort to correct. Any issue that is time sensitive and involves the Wage and Hour laws needs to be addressed right away to keep us from incurring a fine. Pay attention to your emails because Emerald will mark the email as time sensitive so that Managers and District Managers can address the email immediately.
From Anita Whitley: When an employee needs to take a leave of absence (LOA) or FMLA, the employee MUST call Lincoln to file their claim for leave. Lincoln can be contacted via phone at 1-800-423-2765 (Monday – Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. EST, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. EST) or can file online by registering for an account at www.lincolnfinancial.com. Managers and District Managers must submit a status change form via Greenshades when an employee needs to use LOA or FMLA, to include the effective date, last day worked, the estimated return to work date and if the employee has vacation, the vacation time must be used concurrently with LOA or FMLA and noted on the status change form. There are federal rules we must follow in the execution of the FMLA laws and if we follow these steps, we can have full compliance with these rules.
All employees need to make sure they have the most up to date address, phone number, and email address information entered into Greenshades and remember to update their address, email address, and phone number whenever there is a change. When notifications are sent via Greenshades or BenefitSolver, please take the time to log in and view the notification. It could be open enrollment related or something that employees should know or need to know. Usually, emails will be sent out to all store locations, but do not rely on store email communications only for important announcements.
From Lynda Nyberg: When hiring new employees, it is imperative for managers to physically see the documents that are submitted by applicants for their I-9 form. Often times, employees do not key in the correct social security number on their I-9 form, which then causes a delay in the information loading into eRestaurant. Employees cannot begin their first day of work until they are in eRestaurant and are able to clock in. To avoid this delay, ensure the information is correct by physically checking their documents. Another common issue that occurs on TalentReef is when an applicant does not use their legal name when completing their hiring forms. The name that appears on the applicant’s social security card is considered their legal name. If an applicant gets married and changes their name on their state ID or driver’s license, but do not change it on their social security card they must use the name that appears on their social security card when completing their hiring forms.
