You may be wondering if the technological changes will ever end. I think I have the answer!
It seems like it was only a few years back when we switched over from “GT” to “Xpient” software, which involved upgrading our registers in every store to at least PAR 6000 models. In fact, it has been nearly nine years. The next issue to be upgraded was the credit card machines which would work directly with Verifone BAMS, but were not tied directly to each register. Thanks to several hacking events, which thankfully occurred at other businesses, we then moved to our current secure pay device. Before the secure pay device installations were completed we began moving toward the installation of a more secure internet connection called ‘Network 2.0.’ The installation of Network 2.0 has become an arduous process with numerous starts and stops leaving many of our stores still using twenty-four port hubs while we wait for the Comcast installers to complete the project. While we look forward to the day when all our locations have Network 2.0. that day remains elusive.
On a parallel path, both new stores and rebuilds, are being equipped with Digital Menu Boards which are another substantial improvement. If that were not enough change in rapid succession, we will now be having kiosk registers installed in the dining room to give customers even faster access to the ordering process.
Even our camera systems have not been immune to the technological push. Our latest stores have cameras, with remote access, which are so clear I think you could almost read the serial numbers on the dollar bills as the cashier receives them. If these changes seem to be coming at a more furious rate, your perception is accurate. The answer to the initial question is NO! Technological changes will never end, they will in fact escalate, making our operations more efficient while providing an ever more pleasant experience for our customers.
