A quality Training Store starts with a Great Training Manager, with a People Champion, and Training Mindset. BurgerBusters calls this person the Restaurant Training Manager. An ideal Training Manager is curious, open-minded, and motivated to develop and execute standards within our organization. Other skills needed include problem solving, business professionalism, communication, commitment to long term vision, and knowledge of the Taco Bell training program. BurgerBusters’ Training Managers have success in empowering others to be motivated while staying engaged will pay off ten-fold. Training Managers are life-long learners and are constantly working to improve themselves, lead by example. Training Managers stay on top of the latest and greatest happenings at Taco Bell. Training Managers are our Future District Managers and Vice Presidents.
In getting started, the Training Manager must be able to identify the needs of each individual trainee. This is where curiosity comes into play. They must take time to understand the past, present, and future direction of this new team member or manager. This can be conducted through one-on-ones. At the core of an effective Training Manager is correctly identifying what or who needs to be trained utilizing Bench Plans and staying organized using a training calendar. When training internal management candidates, the training need is the difference between the current performance and the required performance that can be met through training.
Once training needs are identified and communicated to the trainee, they must be aligned with Taco Bell’s and BurgerBusters’ overall programs. The Training Manager should build excitement around the training program. By following this model, employees will be more likely to understand the training, will be supported by managers, and the impact to the organization’s success. No one wants to do something just to do it – create the purpose, sell the trainee a Career Path. When linking proper effective training to organizational operational strategy, we will also be able to easily identify the above or bottom-line performers and our future leaders – meaning are you saving BurgerBusters’ money or making BurgerBusters’ money? It is important to ask if we are retaining the Managers and Team Members through proper onboarding on their first day.
One of the keys to a successful training store, and possibly the most important, is leadership buy-in from the top down. Having leadership support helps drive the importance of a GREAT Training program, assists with accountability, and establishes appropriate expectations. Leadership buy-in is more easily obtained when the Training Manager has been able to identify the needs of the District as well as the Division. Together as a Team we will be #1 in 2024. As a Training Manager you are the elite. The Training Manager will work together with their DM as well as their VP and Special Ops VP.
Providing relevant content is a key to a successful Training Store, to ensure your learners are engaged and continue to come back for more and want to grow within the BurgerBusters’ family. The modern learner today is easily distracted, overwhelmed, and has little time to spare. Catering content to their needs is not only important, it is critical (Follow the One Source Training Books). The Trainee’s first day will be remembered on their last day. The content you present to your employees must be applicable and timely to help them with their daily duties, expand their mind, and provide them with quick takeaways that can immediately be applied.
