Nationally the number of job openings at the end of August was 7.1 million, compared with 6 million unemployed people looking for work. The national unemployment rate fell to 3.5% in September, marking the 19th consecutive month at or below 4% unemployment. The percentage of U.S. employees quitting their jobs is at an all time high.

Is it possible for General Managers to achieve their team member turnover goal of 130% with the current competitive job market? The answer is yes.

Forty-one of our restaurants are currently achieving their team member turnover goals. The list includes low, medium, and high-volume restaurants. Twenty-one District Managers have at least one location making their team member turnover goal. Twelve District Managers have two or more locations achieving their goal. Six District Managers have three locations listed.

One District Manager has five locations making their goals. Can you guess who it is? If you guessed Shawn Edmonds, you are correct. Year after year, Shawn’s area has the most restaurants listed in the best of the best team member turnover category. Congratulations to Shawn and his team for their continued focus on retaining their employees!

I’d like to recognize the top ten restaurants with the lowest team member turnover through Period 10. Keep up the great work!

Special recognition goes to Monique Green from Grafton, Unit No. 3827, Julie Campbell from Gloucester, Unit No. 31818 and Develin Floyd from Wendover, Unit No. 15627. These three RGM’s restaurants are not only listed in the top ten above, but their stores were also on the list for having the lowest team member turnover in 2018. Awesome job!

Please remember, running a great restaurant is much easier to do when you have experienced employees. If your restaurant’s turnover rate is currently over 130%, I encourage you to reach out to the RGM’s of any of the restaurants listed above for their retention best practices. Finally, recognizing and thanking your employees for doing a great job goes a long way. They will be more likely to repeat what you are recognizing them for and less likely to leave for another opportunity.
