There are many new developments in our Accounting / Finance department since our last newsletter. As of the first of the year, we have begun processing payroll in house for our Steak ’n Shake team, no longer outsourcing to a third-party provider. We are currently in the process of testing the payroll processing for BurgerBusters and hope to have this completely rolled out in the second quarter. With this will come new benefits such as a self-service site that will allow you to update your address, tax withholdings,    direct deposit information, and request vacation for applicable personnel. W-2 and paystubs will also be available via the self-service site. In an effort to not only become more environmentally friendly, but to better serve our employees, we will be posting paystubs to the online portal and will no longer be printing and mailing paystubs. If you need assistance in the setup of your online account in order to view and / or print your paystubs please call the home office at 757-412-0112 and ask for Trina.

In 2017, the accounting team successfully implemented a 3rd party solution that will scan and code all vendor invoices. This allows us to have digital copies and expanded search capability and auditable trails for all our invoices.  The accounting team has also worked very hard in the transition to eRestaurant, the integration of the 10 stores acquired last summer, as well as preparing for bigger and better things to come!

With all the improvements being made in the Accounting Department, we have two new members to   introduce. Candice DeShields is our new Financial Analyst who comes to us from Schenker, Inc. She has a bachelor’s degree in Technical Management, with a specialization in Accounting. Her background   includes accounts receivable, auditing, period-end and year-end reports, and reports analysis. She is a Navy veteran and resides in the Hampton Roads area with her husband and children. Trina Davenport joined us in November 2017 as an Accounting Specialist. She has been working on a multitude of special projects to include updating lease and tax spreadsheets, fielding W-2 requests, and assisting the AP     department. Her IT background has come in handy as we move toward our new self-service portal. She is always willing and enthusiastic to learn new skills.

With bringing on new members, we also say goodbye to others.  Desi Bonner Jr. has decided to go back to school to further his education.  Brandy Johnson and Lisa Danella have also moved on to new opportunities.

The accounting team has also taken on the added tasks of bringing in house the accounting and bookkeeping for the new ventures into Blaze Pizza, Gigi’s Cupcakes, and other small companies not   included in our day to day Taco Bell and Steak ‘n Shake activities.  In order to process this added work, we welcome Tatiana Davison and Abram Boyer.
